In connection with the opening of the two exhibitions, Chris Killip - Retrospective and Lisa Barnard - The Canary and the Hammer, we will have a conversation with Ken Grant (Chris Killip expert and curator of the exhibition) and Lisa Barnard.
We will look back on Chris Killip's work with Ken Grant, discussing Killip's career from his early series Isle of Man to his later works such as the series Skinningrove. How did Killip work, and how did his deep connection with the working-class communities in Northern England develop?
With Lisa Barnard, we will discuss her project The Canary and the Hammer, for which she conducted extensive research on the societal significance and impact of gold throughout history. We will also talk with her about how she combines traditional documentary photography with modern use of artisanal techniques to make invisible processes visible.
