In the retrospective exhibition Ordinary People, Fotomuseum Den Haag offers a fresh look at the work of Dutch photographer Rob Hornstra (1975). In connection with this overview, Willemijn van der Zwaan, curator of Fotomuseum Den Haag, engages in a conversation with photographer Rob Hornstra. What makes the everyday person so intriguing to Rob Hornstra? What does he hope his work will achieve now and in the future? We reflect with him on his twenty-year career as a photographer and delve into his internationally acclaimed projects like An Atlas of War and Tourism in the Caucasus (2014) and 101 Billionaires (2008). We also discuss "The Europeans," his latest project in which Hornstra is working on a documentary of the European. What does Europe stand for, and what does it mean to be a European in a time when populism and nationalism are gaining unprecedented momentum on the continent?
The Artist Talk is free to attend. If you wish to visit the Ordinary People exhibition beforehand, regular admission fees apply.
