Who will be the winner of the Silver Camera 2009? What was the best Dutch news photo of the year? Will it be some spectacular image of disaster or an impressive picture recording the force of nature? Might it be a sports photo, like last year, or some remarkable piece of political reporting? All will be revealed on 24 January, when the winner of the Silver Camera 2009 is announced.
The award ceremony will also include the presentation of a completely new prize: the award for the Photo-Reportage of the Year is intended to recognise the year’s finest example of documentary photography. Nominations for this prize can include books, exhibitions and web presentations, while the Canon Prize for press photographers under the age of 35 is designed to encourage talented young photographers. Past winners of the latter have included Jörgen Caris, Justin Jin and Joël van Houdt.
All Dutch press photographers and foreign photographers working in the Netherlands are eligible to enter for the Silver Camera 2009. Entries must be submitted via the Silver Camera website by midnight on 31 December. The deadline for entries for the Canon Prize and the Photo-Reportage of the Year is 14 December. In each category, there will be a preliminary selection round in which a professional jury will short-list the top three entries.
